Performance Comparison

DVDRemaster was tested against DVD2oneX and Roxio Popcorn on an eMac 1 GHz G4 with 768 MB of memory and Mac OS X 10.3.6, reading from hard disk. The DVD used was the region 1 DVD of Lord of the Ring: The Two Towers. The recompression settings were the following:

  • DVDRemaster 2.0: Full Remaster, Recompress Menu, Transcode
  • DVD2OneX 1.4.3:Keep all, Constant Ratio
  • Popcorn 1.0: Keep all, Saved as disc image (the timer was stopped when the compression ended - before the creation of the disc image)

Popcorn 1.0: 3817 seconds (63 min 37 sec)
DVD2OneX 1.4.3: 3477 seconds (57 min 57 sec)
DVDRemaster 2.0:
1405 seconds (23 min 25 sec)

Bars show the time to recompress. Shorter is better.

 

DVDRemaster 2.0 took 1405 seconds to process Lord of the Ring: The Two Towers (23 min 25 sec) while DVD2oneX 1.4.5 and Popcorn took about an hour. In other words, DVDRemaster is 2.5 times faster than both DVD2OneX and Popcorn.
