DVDRemaster - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register DVDRemaster?

To learn how to register DVDRemaster simply visit the Registering DVDRemaster 6.3.3 tutorial.

What is the difference between the Standard and Pro editions?

For more information about the difference between the two editions simply visit the DVDRemaster product page.

Why does DVDRemaster tell me that the DVD is encrypted?

Most commercial DVDs are encrypted with the Content Scrambling System. Normally, the fair use provisions of copyright law would allow producing a personal copy of a DVD you already own, but various measures have been taken such as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in the United States that confuse the matter, in that it makes the use of circumvention devices illegal.

Although these devices are not illegal in all countries, we have not included any decryption software with DVDRemaster. Instead, you can use free tools such as Fairmount in conjunction with VLC Media Player, Mac DVDRipper Pro, RipIt, MacTheRipper or 0SEx to decrypt your DVDs.

Why are the colors inverted sporadically or a DVD logo burned on top of my movie?

These are the limitations of the demonstration mode of DVDRemaster. Simply purchase a license and register DVDRemaster.

Why does DVDRemaster loop over the encoding process?

This is the effect of enabling Multipass in the preset configuration. If Multipass is enabled, DVDRemaster will perform a few encoding passes until a certain quality threshold is reached. To disable it, simply unselect Multipass in the preset configuration.

What does the checkbox Remove UOPs do?

UOP stands for User Operation Prohibited flags. These flags can determine which parts of the DVD are unskippable for example. By enabling this checkbox, you can remove these limitations. Note however, that this will render some actions possible where they are not expected, such as calling a menu where it was not expected. UOPs are only removed from menus if the option Recompress menus is also enabled, although UOPs are rarely a problem in menus.
