2. Importing a DVDThe first step is to make a local copy of the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder. Note that most DVDs you will find are encrypted with the Content Scrambling System, or CSS. Normally, the fair use provisions of copyright law enshrined in the first amendment would allow producing a personal copy of a DVD you already own, but the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1999 confuses the matter somewhat, in that it makes the use of "circumvention devices" illegal. Although the DMCA has yet to be tested in court on this matter, the legality of CSS descramblers is sufficiently dubious that we have not included one. Therefore, in order to encode a normal DVD you must descramble it yourself. Decryption can be done with MacTheRipper, DVD Backup or 0SEx but we cannot provide support for decryption of DVDs.
