Converting for video players using turbo.264

Overview

The following describes how DVDRemaster can take advantage of turbo.264 when converting your movies and shows for video players such as iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. We will cover the following topics:

Requirements

Before starting this tutorial, make sure you have the following items available:

  • Latest version of DVDRemaster
  • Mac OS X 10.4 or higher
  • QuickTime 7.2 or higher
  • DVD reader and writer
  • Decryption tools (if your DVD is encrypted)
  • Around 2GB of free disk space if you are making the conversion directly from the DVD or around 9GB if you are making a temporary copy of the DVD on your hard drive
  • A video player such as video iPod, iPod touch, iPhone or Apple TV
  • An elgato turbo.264 hardware encoding device

Prerequisites

In order to effectively complete this tutorial, you will need prior knowledge on how DVDRemaster can be used to convert a DVD so it can be viewed on video players such as iPod, iPhone or Apple TV. If required, you can refer to the Converting a DVD for iPod or iPhone tutorial.

Using turbo.264 with DVDRemaster

Before starting this tutorial, please ensure that you have installed the software distributed with your elgato turbo.264 hardware encoding device. Also, make sure that you have connected your turbo.264 device to an USB port of your computer.

Then, from the Format drop-down list select turbo.264. If the turbo.264 item is unselectable and shows as not installed please ensure that you have installed the software distributed with the device and that the device is properly connected. Depending on your intention select the proper preset from the Presets drop-down list which details all the formats supported by turbo.264.
