Using the Remaster Mode

The Remaster mode is suitable for making a backup of a DVD so it can be burned and played on a standalone DVD player.

Mode
There exists two (2) remastering modes.
Original
The number beside the Original label indicates the total size of the specified source.
Edited
The number beside the Edited label indicates the total size of the elements on the original DVD, for those tracks chosen in the tracks list.
Target size
There are four (4) choices in this drop-down list.
Compression mode
There are three (3) options to choose from the Compression mode drop-down list.
Remove UOPs
UOPs (User Operation Prohibited flags) are flags determining which parts of the DVD are unskippable for example. Selecting Remove UOPs removes these limitations. Note that this will render some actions possible where they are not expected, such as calling a menu where it was not expected. UOPs are only removed from menus if the option Recompress menus is also enabled.
Recompress menus
Selecting Recompress menus recompresses the menus. Note that this is not supported by all standalone DVD players and menus are usually small compared to the overall size of the DVD. Therefore it is recommended to only use this option if it is required to remove UOPs from menus or if menus are large.
Burn DVD
Selecting Burn DVD performs the burning operation once the recompression is done. Depending on the choice made in the Remaster tab present the Preferences... menu item, the burning may be done automatically at the end of the process. Refer to Understanding the menus and preferences for additional details.
Keep subtitles
Selecting Keep subtitles keeps the subtitles present on the DVD, if any.
Select
There are two (2) options to choose from the Select drop-down button.

Track List

This area lists all the tracks present on the DVD and available for recompression. The tracks to recompress are selected here as well as specific settings for each track. For a track to be selected, the check box beside it must be checked. The following columns describe the tracks.

Prog.
The track number as present on the DVD.
Title
The title number as present on the DVD.
Compression
The compression slider enables the setting of the compression differently for each track. Moving the slider to the left decreases the compression and moving it to the right increases it. The higher the compression the lower the quality. Since target size is not modified, there is more space available for the remaining tracks which in turn permits an increase in the quality of the final result. The common use would be to slide it to the right for tracks which can be more compressed, and to the left those for which the quality of the image should be the greatest.
Ratio
The ratio is adjusted when moving the compression slider and represents the compression correlation between each selected track. A track having a higher ratio will be compressed further to achieve the target size.
Size
The number indicates the size of the track; the units vary and are displayed beside the size.
Duration
The number indicates the length of the track.

Most of the tracks have a small arrow on the left of the checkbox. Clicking on the arrow opens the track and shows the audio tracks available with the video track. This view further enables the selection of the audio tracks to keep or reject by selecting the checkbox or deselecting it respectively. Each audio track is defined in terms of language, format and number of channels (1 channel indicates mono, 2 channels indicates stereo and 6 channels indicates surround sound).
